SAW Space Workshop for teachers

SAW ran a special teacher training workshop at the Norwich Research Park today using ‘Space’ as the theme to celebrate the news that Tim Peake will be the first British astronaut to visit the International Space Station. The workshop provided primary and secondary teachers with a SAW workshop template that can be run as an ‘in house’ activity in school.

The science session was delivered by TV astronomer, Mark Thompson (http://www.markthompsonastronomy.com/) and linked poetry and art sessions that will enable children to generate space-inspired poems and artwork were led by SAW lead artist Chris Hann and writer Mike O'Driscoll. See Mark's article in Discovery News; http://bit.ly/1P7eyZp

Very hands-on which is best for understanding....friendly staff with an open atmosphere for commenting. Thanks!

We were also joined by Libby Jackson from the UK Space Agency and Noel Matthews from Amateur Radio on the International Space Station.  We were delighted to hear that Norfolk teachers have secured a 15 minute live link to the International Space Station for children to speak to the astronauts.  This event will be hosted by the City of Norwich school next year.
