With the Norwich Science Festival team recently announcing a “bumper programme of events for 2026” in honour of their 10th anniversary, we thought we’d recap on the fun we had this year.

Collaborating with the brilliant Ministry of Imagination, we supported the creation of a one-woman play: Food Scientists to the Rescue!

Educational play created with Ministry of Imagination

This saw Sally, played by Rosie Walker, along with her travelling suitcases, present an interactive play all about the science of food for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

Throughout the story, each suitcase Sally opened told a different story about her work as a food scientist – exploring the links between food and the planet, our diet, and climate change. Setting the audience the task of helping Sally to solve some of the world’s biggest food challenges.

Exploring topics such as healthy food choices and nutrition whilst introducing some of the latest cutting-edge food science stories from the Norwich Research Park, the play proved to be funny, thought-provoking & educational, inspiring young people to make a brighter future for us all.

As the interactive play lasts approximately 45 minutes, we were lucky enough to feature it as part of the festival as well as take it on tour to schools across the county and present it during assemblies, for multiple classes to enjoy together.

Taking the play on tour to over 35 schools.

We were also able to hold a week-long tour of a specifically adapted run in SEND schools to round up the tour. Check out our SEND Pack for some fun food-themed activities to run in class.

A quick look at the numbers shows that we visited over 35 schools across the county and presented to over 6,000 school children while on tour.

We are totally delighted with how the play went down and we are already thinking about new topics for next year!!

The kids loved the show – it’s such a great idea. Some of my Year 5/6 children were even playing being food scientists on the playground after the event!
