Our new adventure activity book arrives in schools this summer.

The latest edition in our series of science-inspired storybooks will see characters Ben, Jaz and Fizz the alien return for a new adventure in ‘HELP, Our Rivers Need Rescuing!’.

To bring the third book to life, we have once again teamed up with writer Mitch Johnson, and illustrator Daryl Blyth. This year the science theme is all about the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads.

I’ve really grown attached to the characters; they’ve taken on their own personalities. Also with each new book, I personally learn a whole bunch of stuff I never knew! Plus, my children love trying out the experiments. It’s always exciting starting the next SAW activity adventure book!

Daryl Blyth, illustrator.

Year 4 and 5 students in local schools who will be receiving books for free, will be invited to read the story, complete the challenges, and do experiments to help Ben and Jaz protect the broads, with stickers awarded for each completed challenge.

There’s also a competition to win a family boat trip on the Broads, courtesy of the Broads Authority who have been working with us on the book!

The book will also be made available online later in the year so schools further afield can engage with it – more on that soon!

The challenges within the book will have young readers exploring topics such as osmosis, water pollution, navigation and native wildlife.  With emphasis on this local area of outstanding natural beauty, we hope the book inspires young readers to get out and explore this summer.

Special thanks to Anguish’s Educational Foundation, the University of East Anglia and the Bedford Memorial Trust who have generously funded the production of this book and to Richard Cooper (UEA), Kamil Hepak & Wil Nash (EI), Adam Thurtle (WMA) and Nick Sanderson & Rob Leigh (BA) and MK Bailey for their input.
